The board of the Faculty of Science and Technology has adopted the following instructions regarding applications for teaching positions within the Faculty, to provide applicants with advice on how applications should be written and what documents to be included. It is important that applicants follow these instructions so that the recruitment committee and the board of experts will be able to make a fair judgement.
Note: applications and evaluations are official documents. Minutes and evaluations are sent to all applicants after the decision has been made.

2. Curriculum Vitae
Curriculum Vitae should include the following:
- PhD degree (date)
- Post-doctoral fellowship (year, placement)
- Docentship (year)
- Present employment
- Previous employments
- Supervision of PhD students (name of the PhD student and year for PhD degree)
- Appointments/board participation (board of experts, service as opponent at a doctoral/licentiate thesis defense, thesis evaluation committee, evaluation board, scientific council)
- Distinctions and awards
3. PhD diploma
Transcript of the PhD degree or equivalent diploma.
4. Presentation of scientific merits
- List of scientific works
- Doctoral thesis, including the separate papers that were part of it
- Articles in international scientific journals. In publications with several authors, your own particular contribution should be clearly indicated
- Contributions to conferences
- Books and book chapters
- Popular science publications
- Patents
- Other publications
- Description of applicants experience as Ph D student supervisor
- Other scientific merits
5. List of attached publications
List of attached publications (maximum 10). Indicate which publications are supplied digitally.
6. Scientific publications (maximum 10)
Attached articles which best reflect the applicant’s competence.
If the articles are sent by post:
include 2 copies for application to positions as assistant professor/research associate,
include 3 copies for as senior lecturer/associate professor/professor.
7. Plan for the scientific work
The plan for the scientific work should include a brief description of the applicant’s scientific work and vision, including strategies, methods, and scientific policy statement. For applications to positions as assistant professor/research associate 1-2 pages; as senior lecturer/associate professor/professor 4-5 pages.
8. Presentation of teaching merits
- A portfolio of documents pertaining to teaching merits should include:
- List of pedagogical works
- Teaching and planning
- Extent, variation, and level of teaching
- Course responsibility: extent and level
- Experience of different teaching and examination methods
- Selection and means of preparation of teaching and examination material
- Course development
- Participation in course planning and development of teaching methods
- Experience of popular-science activities and research information
- Experience as supervisor to PhD students
- Nature, level, and extent of supervision
- Degree of responsibility in supervision
- Framework of the supervision
- Participation in development and planning of PhD programs
- Pedagogical studies and development work
- Mentorship
- Participation in courses and seminars pertaining to pedagogy
- Implemented pedagogical projects
- How course evaluations have been used and the changes they have effected
- Study trips of pedagogic intent
- Contributions to pedagogical conferences
- Articles in pedagogical journals
- Distinctions/awards and appraisal of teaching efforts
- Teaching awards, including reason for the award
- Evaluations from students over a lengthier period of time
- Accounts from department head, director of studies or colleagues
- Other teaching merits

9. Teaching approach
The applicant should present their pedagogical visions (1-2 pages). The applicant’s fundamental approach to teaching should be evident, along with how this philosophy is expressed in the applicant’s own work. Applicants should relate not only what they have done but also how it was done, why it was done in a particular manner, and what the results were. Likewise shall the applicants describe what they have learned in pedagogic courses and how this knowledge has been applied in the teaching.
The presentation should include the following:
- A description of the applicant’s own view of knowledge, learning, teaching, and leadership, and how he or she has developed and applied this view
- Reflections on one’s own work in relation to the goals and conditions prevailing in the work environment
- Plans for the future
- The applicant is encouraged to comment on implemented pedagogical activities against the background of the submitted documents.
